MPs return to back John Bercow as Speaker
Published:Tuesday,18th,May,2010.
John Bercow has been re-elected as Commons Speaker, despite a handful of objections, as MPs returned to the Commons after the general election.
Mr Bercow said it would be an "honor" to serve again and pledged to "defend the rights of backbenches to hold the government to account".
A handful of MPs shouted "no" when asked if he should be re-elected.
But Father of the House Sir Peter Tapsell said "the ayes have it" - meaning there will be no division.
The Commons is packed with MPs, with new PM David Cameron and his deputy Nick Clegg sitting side by side.
