Surulere is famed as the Lagos suburb for Nigerian movie stars and celebs, but on the 1st of October; Nigeria’s Independence Day was marked with glitz, glamour and the unusual - the Reach out Nigeria initiative; Nigerians got a priceless gift (the Rhapsody of Realities) from Pastor Chris and Rev Anita Oyakhilome.
Mapping out the nooks and crannies of the area, Pastor Femi Otenigbagbe, group Pastor, Christ Embassy Surulere and his mighty men; all adorned in green and white, swooped on the catchment area as early as 7am, witnessing and ministering to every soul in sight as they shared the Rhapsody Of Realities daily devotional.
The response was overwhelming and brethren were delighted, as they watched Nigerians eagerly lap-up the words of hope. Undoubtedly the classic devotional had met fertile hearts.
By 10am, colourful processions from the Seven sub group of the church in the sub-city, slowly but steadily made their way to the National Stadium in Surulere.
Horses, Motor bikes, a cavalcade of cars, a float decorated with green and white balloons and swathes. Flag bearers complemented foot soldiers; most of them donning spectacular hairdos and dress styles, all in Nigeria’s national colours, added to the glitz and glamour of the celebration.
Addressing the jubilant crowd at the stadium, Pastor Femi admonished Nigerians to imbibe the superior mindset and begin to adopt a positive stance on National issues. He said Nigerians must begin to think Nigeria and inculcate patriotism.
The Reach out Nigeria project was initiated by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome as a change movement to help inculcate patriotism in Nigerians through the instrumentality of the most read daily devotional, The Rhapsody of Realities.
Nigerians have become endemically disillusioned and negative on account of years of insensitivity of successive governments to the plight of Citizenry.
More than 10 million copies of the daily devotional were distributed nationwide.
As the event came to an end, it was obvious that the ball had been set in motion for this select crowd in moving the Nation from statehood to Nationhood; a pivotal incentive for the ReachOut Nigeria movement.
